Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Monday said the State Government would extend all necessary support and assistance to the family of the person who died following an incident near a counting centre in Khowai, while asserting that the administration would ensure that the truth surrounding the incident is established.

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said the death of a person in such circumstances was extremely unfortunate and that the Government would take whatever steps were necessary to assist the bereaved family. He said he had spoken to police and administrative officials regarding the incident and had sought details of what had actually happened.

The Chief Minister’s remarks came amid a politically charged atmosphere following the counting of votes in the 2026 TTAADC Village Committee elections, with opposition parties alleging violence, security lapses and irregularities at several counting centres.

Dr. Saha said allegations made by the CPI(M) and other opposition parties could not be accepted merely on the basis of political statements. According to him, every allegation must be examined on the basis of facts and evidence.

He particularly criticised what he described as attempts to create confusion through misinformation and political propaganda. The Chief Minister said political parties should accept the verdict of the people and maintain peace and democratic values.

He also questioned the opposition’s criticism of the electoral process, saying that the Village Committee election had been conducted under the supervision of the State Election Commission and the administration.
