The counting of votes for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Council elections continued across the state on Monday, with the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) emerging as the clear frontrunner in the results available up to 6 PM.
The elections were held for 4,597 seats across 587 Village Committees. A significant number of seats had already been won uncontested before the polling stage, while the remaining seats witnessed direct electoral contests among TMP, BJP, CPI(M), Congress, IPFT and Independent candidates.
According to the result position available at 6 PM, TMP had won 1,156 seats in direct contests, while the BJP had secured 400 seats. Independents had won 83 seats, CPI(M) 37, IPFT 17 and Congress 10 seats.
TMP's Overall Dominance
TMP's strength becomes much more pronounced when its uncontested victories are added to the seats won through direct contests. The party had secured 1,557 seats uncontested, and subsequently won another 1,156 seats through direct contests.
This gives TMP a combined tally of 2,713 seats, representing approximately 59.02 per cent of the total 4,597 Village Council seats.
Of the entire Village Council seat structure, TMP's uncontested victories alone account for approximately 33.87 per cent, while its victories in direct contests account for another 25.15 per cent.
Thus, nearly three-fifths of all Village Council seats were already in TMP's column by the 6 PM position when both uncontested and contested victories are taken together.
BJP in Second Position
The BJP stood in second position with 400 victories in direct contests. The party had also secured 81 seats uncontested.
With the two figures combined, the BJP's total stood at 481 seats, representing approximately 10.46 per cent of the total 4,597 seats.
The BJP's 81 uncontested seats account for around 1.76 per cent of all Village Council seats, while its 400 contested victories account for approximately 8.70 per cent.
The combined TMP-BJP position therefore gives the NDA partners a substantial presence across the Village Council institutions, although the overwhelming share of the alliance's seats has gone to TMP.
Independents Make a Significant Showing
Independent candidates have also performed strongly in the direct contests. Independents had won 83 seats by 6 PM.
Since no uncontested seats are included in the Independent tally under the figures available, their 83 victories represent approximately 1.81 per cent of the total 4,597 seats.
The Independent candidates therefore occupied the third position in terms of seats won through direct contests at the 6 PM stage.
CPI(M) Wins 37 Seats
The CPI(M) had secured 37 seats through direct contests by 6 PM.
The party's 37 victories represent approximately 0.80 per cent of the total Village Council seats.
Although CPI(M) remained well behind TMP and BJP in the overall tally, its performance placed it ahead of Congress and IPFT in terms of contested seats won at this stage.
IPFT and Congress
The Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) had secured 17 seats through direct contests, representing approximately 0.37 per cent of the total 4,597 seats.
Congress, meanwhile, had won 10 seats, equivalent to approximately 0.22 per cent of the total Village Council seats.
Neither IPFT nor Congress had any significant number of uncontested victories in the figures being considered, leaving their overall tallies largely dependent on the results of direct contests.
Party-wise Contest and Victory Picture
After withdrawals, TMP had candidates remaining in 4,279 seats, BJP candidates in 1,853 seats, CPI(M) in 2,151 seats, Congress in 425 seats, IPFT in 356 seats and Independents in 753 seats. Since several parties contested the same constituencies, these figures represent the number of party candidates in the electoral contest and cannot be added together to determine the number of unique contested seats.
From the TMP figure of 4,279 candidates, 1,557 seats were won uncontested, leaving approximately 2,722 TMP candidates involved in direct contests. TMP had won 1,156 of those contests by 6 PM.
Similarly, the BJP had 1,853 candidates after withdrawals, of whom 81 secured seats uncontested. This left approximately 1,772 BJP candidates in direct contests, with 400 of them winning by the 6 PM stage.
The corresponding direct-contest candidate figures were 753 for Independents, 2,151 for CPI(M), 425 for Congress and 356 for IPFT, with the 6 PM winning figures standing at 83, 37, 10 and 17 respectively.
Contest-Wise Winning Percentage
Viewed against the number of candidates who remained in direct contests, TMP had won approximately 42.47 per cent of the direct contests involving its candidates, based on 1,156 victories out of approximately 2,722 contested seats.
The BJP had won approximately 22.57 per cent of its direct contests, with 400 victories out of approximately 1,772 contested seats.
Independents had won approximately 11.02 per cent of the contests involving their candidates, with 83 victories out of 753.
CPI(M)'s 37 victories represented approximately 1.72 per cent of its 2,151 contested candidates, while Congress's 10 victories represented approximately 2.35 per cent of its 425 candidates. IPFT had won 17 of its 356 contested seats, representing approximately 4.78 per cent.
These percentages should be read as party-specific candidate success rates, because the same Village Council seat could have candidates from several political parties.
Combined Share of Contested and Uncontested Victories
When the 6 PM contested results and the uncontested victories are combined, TMP's 2,713 seats represent 59.02 per cent of all 4,597 Village Council seats.
BJP's combined tally of 481 seats represents 10.46 per cent. Independents account for 1.81 per cent, CPI(M) for 0.80 per cent, IPFT for 0.37 per cent, and Congress for 0.22 per cent.
The figures demonstrate the enormous advantage TMP gained from its large number of uncontested victories even before the counting of votes began. Its subsequent performance in direct contests further strengthened its position.
A Major Political Message from the ADC Areas
The Village Council elections are politically significant because they represent the grassroots level of administration within the TTAADC areas. The results are therefore being closely watched by all major political parties, particularly because the elections come at a time of intense political competition over the future direction of tribal politics in Tripura.
The 6 PM results indicate a clear lead for TMP, followed by BJP, while Independents and the opposition parties remain considerably behind in terms of seats won.
Counting Still Underway
The figures are the position available as of 6 PM on October 5, 2026, and should therefore be treated as provisional until the final results are declared by the competent election authorities.
As counting continues in different centres, the number of seats won by each party is expected to change. The final picture will provide a more complete assessment of the political balance across the 587 Village Committees and 4,597 seats.
At the 6 PM stage, however, the broad picture remains unmistakable: TMP is firmly in first place with 2,713 seats when contested and uncontested victories are combined, while BJP occupies the second position with 481 seats.
