Tripura Police Inspector General (Law & Order) Manchak Ippar, IPS reportedly had a narrow escape after his vehicle came under attack while he was returning from the Thalibari counting centre on Monday.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred when the senior police officer was travelling back from the counting centre amid heightened tension surrounding the counting of votes for the TTAADC Village Committee elections. His vehicle was allegedly targeted by a group of miscreants suspected to be supporters of Tipra Motha.
There were no immediate reports of any serious injury to the IGP or members of his security team.
The incident reportedly created tension in the area, with security personnel taking steps to control the situation. Police have started looking into the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and are expected to identify those involved through investigation and available evidence.
The incident has raised serious questions over the security arrangements surrounding senior police officials during the counting process. If an Inspector General of Police responsible for Law and Order can allegedly come under attack while returning from a counting centre, questions naturally arise over the security of ordinary citizens and election-related personnel in the area.
