The controversy surrounding the crowdfunding campaign for the treatment of child patient Manushree has taken a fresh turn, with serious allegations emerging against city-based suspended BJPs youth leader Raja Saha, including an alleged life-threatening threat to an HDFC Bank senior official.

Police are reportedly examining the possibility of taking further legal action against those named in the complaint, while the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office is also looking into aspects of the financial transactions connected with the crowdfunding campaign.

The controversy has also raised questions over the manner in which donations were collected, including allegations that substantial amounts were received through personal bank accounts and QR-code scanners, while questions have also been raised about the accounting and deposit of cash collections.

According to a written complaint submitted by an HDFC Bank senior branch manager to West Agartala Police Station on September 29, 2026, three persons allegedly entered the bank premises on September 28 seeking information about a high-value RTGS transaction connected with an account associated with the crowdfunding collection.

The complaint names Raja Saha, Amit Kumar Das and Amrit Deb. The bank official alleged that the individuals created a disturbance, recorded the interaction on mobile phones and subsequently issued threats when asked to stop recording.

The complaint further alleges that one of the persons threatened to bring additional people to the branch and "finish" the bank official. The bank has requested police to register the complaint and initiate appropriate proceedings.

The financial aspect of the controversy has also come under scrutiny. According to the bank complaint, an account in the name of Dhruva Chowdhury had been used for receiving public donations and the bank subsequently received an RTGS request of Rs.2.76 crore, representing the balance in the beneficiary account, in favour of an account in the name of Care Foundation.

The bank stated that, considering the nature and high value of the transaction, it had undertaken due-diligence procedures and sought necessary confirmation and documentation before processing it.

The complaint also refers to an earlier direction received on September 2 from the office of the Additional District Magistrate, West Tripura, seeking details of transactions in the concerned account following a complaint received by the district administration. The bank said it supplied the requested information and submitted its response on September 18.

Meanwhile, allegations have surfaced that large amounts were collected for Manushree's treatment through different personal payment channels, including QR-code scanners, and that substantial cash collections may not have been deposited into bank accounts.

The bank complaint states that more than 20 staff members witnessed the alleged incident at the branch. Their statements could therefore become important evidence in the investigation.

With both the police and the West Tripura district administration examining different aspects of the matter, the Manushree crowdfunding controversy is now likely to face closer scrutiny over both the alleged threats and the financial trail of the donations.
