The school education system run by the ADC and state government within ADC areas has virtually collapsed because of crippling shortage of teachers and desertion of students from them. Most of the primary schools are closed as neither teachers nor students go to them and their places have been taken over by costly English medium school run privately by church-affiliated individuals and groups.
But the condition of even the privately run English medium schools is now showing signs of collapsing. The point is illustrated by the pitiable state of the Kulibari English medium junior basic schools in Abhicharan circle under the ADC in Mohanpur subdivision. Sources from Abhicharan said that on most of the days teachers remain absent but draw salaries at the end of the month, as usual. But on other days a few teachers come but stand outside the school as the gates and doors are not opened as there is hardly any student.
A few days ago the DM (west) Dr Vishal Kumar had visited the school and inquired about the conditions including teaching of students . The DM (west) had also issued instructions for the betterment of the school but this did not have any major impact. Despite improvement in overall conditions after the DM’s visit the condition in the school is back to square one. Some teachers spoke to the media persons about the condition of the school and expressed concern over the future of the students studying there but the ADC authority is totally apathetic to the deteriorating condition of this Kulibari JB school as well as to other dysfunctional schools within ADC areas.
