School of Science Observes Birth Anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri in Agartala

The School of Science, Shyamali Bazar, Agartala, observed the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on Friday with due solemnity and respect, paying tribute to the two national leaders and recalling their enduring contributions to the country.

The programme was organised to commemorate the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi, the principal leader of India's freedom movement who championed truth and non-violence, and Lal Bahadur Shastri, India's second Prime Minister, whose life was marked by simplicity, integrity, patriotism and dedication to public service.

Teaching staff, students and members of the School of Science participated in the observance and paid floral tributes to the two leaders. The programme also provided an opportunity for the students to reflect on the values and ideals associated with their lives and public service.

Speaking on the occasion, Abhijit Bhattacharjee, Principal of the School of Science, highlighted the continuing relevance of Mahatma Gandhi's ideals of truth, non-violence, peace and simplicity in contemporary society. He also recalled Lal Bahadur Shastri's exemplary life of simplicity, integrity, patriotism and commitment to national service.

Bhattacharjee said that the lives and teachings of Gandhi and Shastri hold particular significance for young people. He emphasised the importance of developing discipline, responsibility, honesty and a sense of commitment towards the nation, urging students to incorporate these values into their everyday lives.

The programme also recalled Mahatma Gandhi's pivotal role in India's freedom struggle and Lal Bahadur Shastri's contribution to strengthening the country during a crucial phase of its post-Independence history.

Teachers and students expressed their commitment to the values of unity, peace, discipline and social responsibility, stressing that remembrance of the two leaders should go beyond ceremonial observance and inspire responsible conduct in daily life.

The programme concluded with a solemn tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri and a renewed pledge by the participants to uphold their ideals and contribute towards building a responsible, compassionate and progressive India.
