40th anniversary of Tripura university observed, CM expresses annoyance

The 40th anniversary of Tripura Central University was observed today through an official function held in the MBB auditorium of the university. There were lot of mismanagements in holding the function that has been a familiar feature of university’s external programmes . But the high point was that the chief minister Dr Manik Saha expressed his annoyance over the timing and mismanagement of the programme in a subtle manner.

The chief minister had reached for the programme strictly according to the schedule announced by the TCU authority in the letter of invitation but the programme commenced late. The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university Professor Debabrata Das and registrar Professor Samir Shil gave detailed and time-taking speeches detailing the achievements of the university over the past four decades without caring for the presence of the waiting chief minister.

Rising to speak in his turn the chief minister Dr Saha indirectly but subtly expressed his displeasure over the inordinately delay in scheduling the programme as well as the visible mismanagement. He however hailed the success of the university and said that every effort should be made to ensure that the Tripura Central University (TCU) which is the pride of the state achieves much better rating that it has at present through academic studies and research. “The success of the university reflects the success of the state and its human resources; hence I call upon all concerned with the university to try for achieving higher ranking” said Dr Saha.

Tripura did not have a university till the year 1986 but only a campus for teaching a limited number of subjects of the Calcutta university. But a separate Tripura university had started functioning from the year 1987 after being launched a year before . In the year 2006 the Tripura university got the status of a central university . But despite initial success in the matter of countrywide ranking , Tripura central university now languishes at the bottom of the ranking ladder and is in urgent need of improvement.
