Tripura honours eight Good Samaritans for helping accident victims

The Tripura Transport Department on Wednesday honoured eight people for helping road accident victims reach hospitals promptly, recognising their role as ‘Rahbir’ or Good Samaritans.

The awardees received Rs 25,000 and certificates at a programme held at Conference Hall No. 1 of the State Secretariat.

The department said the initiative seeks to encourage people to come forward after road accidents and assist injured persons in reaching hospitals quickly. It said such assistance can help save valuable lives.

Among those honoured were Kajal Debnath and Prasenjit Bhowmik from Gomati district, who jointly received the recognition. Ashesh Das, Khurshid Mia and Ajit Das were also among the awardees.

From Dhalai district, Satyajit Kumar Shil and Satyaranjan Debnath received the honour, while Latika Sinha from Unakoti district was also recognised.

The department said the ‘Rahbir’ initiative aims to encourage people to overcome hesitation and help accident victims without delay. It said the recognition was intended to encourage more people to assist those in distress following road accidents.

The programme also highlighted the importance of reaching injured persons to hospitals quickly after accidents. According to the department, the initiative seeks to promote public participation in assisting accident victims and supporting life-saving efforts.
