BJP Alleges Serious Poll Irregularities Against Alliance Partner TIPRA Motha, Demands Repoll at Wareng Bari Booth

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura has lodged a serious complaint with the State Election Commission, alleging that the polling process at Wareng Bari SB School under Gamaria Village Committee in Matabari RD Block was disrupted during Monday’s TTAADC Village Committee elections. The party has demanded repolling at the concerned polling station.
According to a written representation issued by the Tripura State Executive Committee of the BJP on September 29, the polling environment at the booth was allegedly not free, peaceful or impartial. The BJP alleged that supporters of TIPRA Motha took control of the polling station and interfered with the voting process.
The BJP further alleged that ordinary voters were prevented from entering the polling centre, raising concerns over whether voters were able to exercise their constitutional and democratic rights freely and without obstruction.
The party stated that the alleged disruption created an atmosphere in which several voters could not cast their votes independently. According to the BJP, such circumstances raise questions regarding the transparency and neutrality of the polling process at the particular centre.
Against this backdrop, the BJP has submitted a written application to the State Election Commission, seeking a review of the circumstances surrounding polling at the booth and demanding that fresh polling be conducted if the allegations are found to have merit.
The BJP said that a free, peaceful and impartial election is a fundamental requirement of a democratic system and called for the allegations surrounding the polling process to be properly verified through an impartial inquiry.
The party has also urged the State Election Commission to take necessary action under the applicable election laws and rules after examining the allegations.
The complaint comes amid heightened political tension surrounding the TTAADC Village Committee elections. The BJP and TIPRA Motha had reached an understanding to work together in the Village Committee elections, although candidates of the two parties were also reported to be contesting against each other in a number of constituencies. Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha had earlier described the two parties as alliance partners for the Village Committee polls.
The allegations are particularly significant as Wareng Bari was also the location of an earlier reported shooting incident involving TIPRA Motha candidate Khachindra Reang during polling on September 28. Police-related reports said one person sustained a gunshot injury and two others were injured; the circumstances and responsibility for the incident remain subject to investigation.
The BJP's latest complaint, however, specifically concerns the conduct of polling and alleged obstruction of voters at the Wareng Bari SB School polling centre. The allegations contained in the BJP's representation have not, at this stage, been established as facts by the State Election Commission or any judicial authority.
The Election Commission's response and any decision on the BJP's demand for repolling will therefore be closely watched.
