‘Tipra Motha’ in deputation with state election commission to press for arrest of culprits involved in firing incident

A 9-member delegation of ‘Tipra Motha’ party led by MLA Ranjit Debbarma, ADC CEM Runiel Debbarma, MLA BIshwajit Koloi , MDC Suraj Debbarma, MDC Jiten Debbarma, MDC Prathamit Debbarma and others today met in deputation with the state election commissioner Anurag Sen in the Commission’s office at Gorkha Basti . They discussed the issue of firing upon ‘Tipra Motha’ candidate in the Maharanipur village committee near Warengbari under Udaipur subdivision yesterday and urged upon the election commissioner to take appropriate and drastic action to ensure arrest of the culprits involved in the firing incident. The election commissioner Anurag Sen assured the delegation that he will issue appropriate instructions to the police authority to trace out and arrest the culprits at the earliest. After the deputation MLA Ranjit Debbarma spoke to media persons outside the state election commission office and asserted that unless the culprits are arrested within twenty four hours his party will take to an agitational path.

The incident of firing happened at Warengbari area between 2-00-2-15 PM, leading to injury sustained by Sachindra Reang (34) , a candidate of the party in the VC polls in Gamaria ADC Village Committee. In the same incident two other ‘Tipra Motha’ workers Naithok Jamatya (26) of Gangphira area and Udairam Reang (40) of Warengbari were injured. Sachindra Reang was first sent to Gomati district hospital and then referred to GBP hospital, Agartala because of the serious nature of the injury he had sustained from unknown gunmen. The ‘Tipra Motha’ workers launched a road blockade programme in protest against the firing incident at Maharani but it was withdrawn at the request of police.

Meanwhile, the BJP state president and MLA Abhishek Debroy and party general secretary Bipin Debbarma today visited the GBP hospital and met the injured ‘Tipra Motha’ candidate Sachindra Reang . They spoke to doctors and took information about the condition of Sachindra Reang. Speaking to media persons Abhishek Debroy condemned the incident of firing and said that police have already been instructed to conduct a foolproof inquiry and identify the culprits responsible for firing upon Sachindra Debbarma and arrest them at the earliest.
