Police Clarification : Mungiakami Incident Arose from Road Accident, No Evidence of Political Motive

The police have issued a factual clarification regarding the incident near Mungiakami RD Block on September 28, stating that the preliminary enquiry has found no indication that the incident was politically motivated or connected with the recently concluded TTAADC Village Committee elections.
The clarification comes after reports of an alleged post-poll attack on BJP workers and a vehicle driver in areas adjoining Mungiakami RD Block. Earlier, Tribal Welfare Minister and senior BJP leader Bikash Debbarma had condemned what was described at the time as an alleged attack on BJP workers and a driver and had called for an impartial investigation and strict action against those found responsible. The earlier report had also noted that the Minister did not directly accuse Tipra Motha or any particular political organisation, but instead demanded that the administration identify the persons actually involved and take action according to law.
According to the police clarification, the incident occurred at around 6:00 PM on September 28 near Mungiakami RD Block. Shri Parimal Das, son of Late Anil Das and presently residing at 43 Mile, was travelling in his vehicle from Mungiakami Bazar towards the RD Block.
When he reached near Ramkrishnapur, a scooty approaching from the opposite direction allegedly collided with his vehicle. Following the collision, an altercation reportedly broke out between the two persons. During the altercation, the scooty rider allegedly assaulted Parimal Das with fists and blows, causing injuries.
Police said that, based on the enquiry conducted so far, the incident appears to have originated from a road accident followed by a personal altercation, rather than from political rivalry or post-poll violence.
The injured Parimal Das was initially taken to a medical facility for treatment and was subsequently referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala, where he is presently undergoing treatment.
Police said they immediately took cognisance of the incident and are verifying all relevant facts and circumstances. Further action, if required, will be taken strictly in accordance with law on the basis of the findings of the enquiry.
The clarification is significant because the incident took place immediately after the TTAADC Village Committee elections on September 28, when political tensions were reported from several parts of the state. The timing had initially led to the incident being viewed in the context of post-poll political clashes. However, the preliminary police findings do not presently establish such a connection.
The police have therefore cautioned against prematurely linking the incident with post-poll political violence or attributing responsibility to supporters of any particular political party or organisation.
Minister Bikash Debbarma had earlier called for an impartial investigation and strict action against whoever was actually responsible. His earlier statement, as reported by Tripurainfo.com, focused on ensuring that those responsible were identified through an investigation rather than directly naming any political organisation.
The latest police clarification now provides a different factual context to the incident, indicating that the available preliminary evidence points to a traffic collision and subsequent personal altercation, with no political motive established so far.
