CPI(M) Demands Re-Polling at Booths Alleging Violence, Bogus Voting and Polling Agent Obstruction in TTAADC VC Elections

The Tripura State Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded fresh polling at all polling stations where allegations of booth capturing, bogus voting, violence and obstruction of polling agents were reported during Monday’s TTAADC Village Committee elections.
In a statement issued on September 28, the CPI(M) alleged that the ruling alliance had, during the nomination process, prevented opposition candidates from contesting in several places, resulting in a large number of seats being decided uncontested. The party claimed that, in the remaining constituencies, it had appealed to voters to exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation.
The CPI(M) State Secretariat congratulated voters who, according to the party, came out to vote despite alleged attempts to create fear and obstacles. The party said that voters had demonstrated their determination to exercise their democratic rights.
The CPI(M) alleged that throughout the polling day, supporters of the BJP and Tipra Motha prevented candidates and polling agents of the CPI(M) and other Left parties from entering polling stations in several locations.
The statement further alleged that incidents of physical intimidation and violence took place in some areas. According to the CPI(M), voters were allegedly pressured at their homes and on roads leading to polling stations not to cast their votes.
The party also alleged that, despite such pressure, voters exercised their franchise. It claimed that in several places supporters of the ruling alliance allegedly entered polling stations and cast bogus votes.
The CPI(M) State Secretariat condemned what it described as undemocratic activities and alleged that such incidents were aimed at turning the Village Committee election into a farce.
According to the statement, the alleged incidents could not completely prevent voters from exercising their democratic rights. The party said that voters overcame the reported obstacles and participated in the electoral process.
The CPI(M) further stated that it had already approached the State Election Commission regarding cases where it alleged that bogus voting, booth capturing and other irregularities had occurred.
The party has now formally demanded re-polling in all polling stations where such allegations have been reported, asking the State Election Commission to take appropriate action.
