Gopal Roy condemns attempted attack on Manik Sarkar’s vehicle

Veteran Congress MLA and former PCC president Gopal Chandra Roy has strongly condemned the sloganeering around the forcibly stranded vehicle of former chief minister Manik Sakar at Kalibazar under Bamutia assembly constituency yesterday. In a statement he said that this was a planned move by the ruling BJP to prevent the former chief minister and the opposition parties as a whole from holding any programme anywhere.

“We are not accustomed to such a perverse culture in Tripura and this has been brought in here by the BJP; they should know that holding or attending a political programme is a legitimate right of all political parties guaranteed by the constitution; such attempts to stop a political programme by keeping an opposition leader confined in a vehicle and shouting filthy slogans against him is reprehensible” said Gopal Roy.

He also pointed out that Manik Sarkar was the chief minister of the state for long two decades and his presence and personality command respect. “I fail to understand what the BJP wanted to prove by staging such an ugly drama around the vehicle of a former chief minister; what the unruly BJP supporters did yesterday was not only grossly illegal but condemnable ; I demand the immediate arrest of those who created this filthy drama” said Gopal. He also dismissed the chief minister Dr Manik Saha’s statement holding the 10,323 teachers and deprived Rose Valley chit fund account holders as ‘totally baseless, cheap and attempt to shield the culprits’.
