VC polls by and large peaceful in Kanchanpur and Sarbroom

The daylong elections to the Village Committees under ADC have been more or less peaceful in Kanchanpur and Sabroom subdivisions of north and south Tripura. In Kanchanpur polling began, as scheduled , from 7-00 in the morning with large number of tribal and a small percentage of non-tribal voters forming long queues in front of the polling stations. Even though tight security measures were adopted around all the polling stations in Kanchanpur subdivision including some remote ones in areas bordering Chittagong hill-tracts of Bangladesh, an untoward incident was reported from Gopalpur ADC village where the agent of an independent candidate was stopped from entering the booth allegedly by supporters of ‘Tipra Motha’. Sources in the state election commission however said that the situation had been tackled well by the security forces and the polling agent could enter the booth under security.

Similarly , no untoward incident has been reported so far from anywhere in Sabroom subdivision. Sources from Sabroom said that there are three blocks under the subdivision-Satchand , Rupaicherri and Poangbari. There are 15 ADC village committees under Satchand block with 36 polling stations , Rupaicherri block has 18 vilage committees covered by 29 polling stations while Poangbari block has 3 village committees with 8 polling stations. Polling in all the polling stations had begun well in time from 7-00 AM with voters forming long queues and no untoward incident has been reported.
