BJP MDC Manju Rani Sarkar Allegedly Held by Tipra Motha Supporters Late at Night Over Alleged Cash Distribution Ahead of ADC Village Council Polls at Dhanichhara

BJP MDC Manju Rani Sarkar was allegedly held by Tipra Motha supporters late Sunday night in the Machmara–Dhanichhara area of Pecharthal, amid allegations that cash was being distributed to influence voters on the eve of the TTAADC Village Committee elections.

According to allegations from the area, Tipra Motha supporters stopped Manju Rani Sarkar and kept her inside a house during the late-night hours, claiming that an attempt was being made to distribute cash among voters ahead of Monday’s polling.

The incident reportedly created tension in the area, with police reaching the spot amid efforts to bring the situation under control and facilitate the release of the BJP MDC.

The allegations of cash distribution have not been independently verified.

The incident later prompted the intervention of BJP MLA and Minister Santana Chakma, who reportedly made an urgent Facebook Live appeal to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police seeking immediate intervention for the release of Manju Rani Sarkar.

Chakma disputed the allegation against the MDC and said Manju Rani Sarkar had gone to her parental home in South Dhanichara, Kailabari, to attend a family invitation. She alleged that Tipra Motha supporters had attacked the MDC and taken away her vehicle key.

The minister strongly condemned the alleged incident and called for an end to political violence, demanding action against those responsible.

The incident comes just hours before polling for the TTAADC Village Committee elections, making it a politically sensitive development in the run-up to voting.
