Tripura Higher Education Department Approves 11-Month Engagement of Guest Lecturers at Rs.500 Per Class

In a move aimed at addressing the shortage of teaching staff and ensuring smooth academic activities in higher educational institutions, the Government of Tripura’s Education (Higher) Department has authorised all government general degree colleges, professional and technical degree institutions, and diploma-level technical institutes under the department to engage Guest/Visiting Lecturers for 11 months during the academic year 2026–27.

According to a memorandum issued by the Education (Higher) Department on September 25, 2026, the guest lecturers will be paid an honorarium of Rs.500 per class, subject to a maximum of 72 classes per month.

With the ceiling of 72 classes, a guest lecturer can receive a maximum monthly honorarium of Rs.36,000 (Rs.500 × 72 classes).

The department said the decision has been taken in order to maintain smooth academic activities and to overcome the current shortage of teachers.

The memorandum makes it clear that engagement of Guest/Visiting Lecturers will be carried out on merit basis while maintaining the reservation policy of the State Government.
