2nd fly-over in city to connect Fire Brigade Chaumuhuni with Radha Nagar bus stand , finance approval awaited

Tripura’s state capital Agartala is all set to have its second fly-over to ease the heavy traffic burden on the city. The preparatory state for the work on the fly-over is well in progress and all that is required now is sanction from the ministry of finance . Once the green-signal from the finance ministry is available work on construction of the proposed fly-over will commence in right earnest after the statutory tender process is completed.

According to the alignment of the fly-over which is already finalized, it will start from the Fire Brigade chaumuhuni off the existing fly-over, will proceed towards Durga Chaumuhuni and then cross the Katakhal area to land at Radhanagar bus stand across the Astabol chaumuhuni. It is estimated to be 3.98 kilometre long and will have multiple landing arteries all along the populated areas for the convenience of vehicles that will ply on it.

Sources in the PWD department which will be the nodal agency for construction of the fly-over will help directly connect the AD Nagar area with Radhanagar across the Agartala town . The primary estimated expenditure for the constution has been set to be Rs 678 crores though the primarily estimated expenditure may go up because of the expenses to be incurred in land acquisition needed for construction through many parts in the crowded areas of the town up to Durga Chaumuhuni police outpost. Sources said that initially it had been proposed that the second fly-over will be constructed through the Akhaura road, Jagannath Bari road, Bidur Karta and Colonel Chaumuhuni up to the north gate and an amount of Rs 65 crores had been set aside for land acquisition but ultimately this alignment was given up for various reasons.

Sources said that , apart from the state finance department’s approval which will be easily available, clearance from union finance ministry and also NITI Ayog will also be required before embarking on the tender process. But sources said that the entire process of clearances and allocation of funds will be completed within the next few months and the tender process will commence early next year.
