‘Ganja’ (cannabis) consignment seized in Agartala’s Lake Chaumuhuni

In a successful anti-drug operation the personnel of West Agartala police station this morning seized a large quantity of contraband ‘Ganja’ (cannabis) from a vehicle parked in the Lake Chaumuhuni area of Agartala town. Giving details police sources said that , acting on a tip-off a police team led by the officer in charge (OC) of West Agartala police station Sanjit Sen had laid an ambush in the Lake Chaumuhuni area for a vehicle by which the ‘Ganja’ consignment was supposed to arrive at the appointed spot.

Around 8-30 AM a Maruti van arrived on the spot and the police party stopped it for a search operation. In the course of search operation the police party found a huge but unspecified quantity of dry ‘Ganja’ and seized the consignment. Two persons who had brought the ‘Ganja’ consignment were also nabbed but the police sources refused to disclose the names of the persons, citing legal grounds.

Sources said that cases invoking the NDPS act have been registered against the nabbed duo and they are being produced in court today for remand for cusrodial interrogation. Speaking to media persons the OC of West Agartala police station Sanjit Sen said that the seized ‘Ganja’ consignment will be duly weighed for record and operations against ‘Ganja’ and drugs will continue in areas under the jurisdiction of the police station.
