Rich tributes paid to deceased philosopher and Hindutwa political theorist Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya

Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (1916-1968) had a brief but remarkable life as a philosopher, Hindutwa thinker and theorist and also as one of the founding members of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS), the precursor of BJP. He had included in BJS’s political philosophy and ideology the concepts of integral humanism , ‘Antyodaya’ , nationalism and self-reliance or ‘Swadeshi’. Before his remarkable life had ended on February 11 1968 when he was supposed to have been thrown off a Patna-bound train to die at Mughalsarai station in UP, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya had laid the ideological and philosophical foundation of BJS which morphed into today’s BJP on April 6 1980.

His 111th birth anniversary was officially observed today in the government run ‘Muktadhara’ auditorium through a function in which the chief minister Dr Manik Saha, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder , MLA Meena Rani Sarkar and director of the department of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Bimbisar Bhattacharjee were present. At the beginning the chief minister and other VIPs offered floral tribures to and garlanded a portrait of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya set on the dais and paid their silent respects.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion in the ‘Muktadhara’ auditorium the chief minister Dr Manik Saha described Pandit Deen Dayal Updhyaya as a ‘revolutionary thinker’ who laid the ideological foundation of the country that is being sought to be created by the present BJP governments in Centre and states. “Panditji propounded the ideas of ‘Anthodaya’ and ‘Sarvadoya’ in the country at a time when these ideas were unknown; he wanted the benefit of government schemes and plans to reach the last line of people; adherence to this philosophy alone can lead to the emergence of ‘Vikshit Bharat’” said the chief minister. In the auditorium packed with a large audience Dr Saha said that the party workers and supporters must be imbued with the ideas , policies and principles enunciated by Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya to ensure the emergence of India as a rich and powerful country. He specially stressed on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya’s ideas on ‘Antyoday’ and ‘Savodaya’ and urged upon all those present to act upon the philosophical ideas of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya to make Tripura a rich and advanced state in the country.
