Tripura Olympic Association Team Inspects Asian Games Infrastructure in Japan Ahead of Upcoming National Games

With the upcoming National Games in Meghalaya and other northeastern states approaching, a delegation comprising senior sports officials, engineers and technical experts from Meghalaya, along with representatives of the Tripura Olympic Association, is currently visiting Japan to study sports infrastructure and gain organisational experience from the ongoing Asian Games.

The delegation includes Meghalaya Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla, F Kharsyiang, Secretary General of the North East Sports Association and Working President of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association, along with engineers and other experts. Sujit Roy, Secretary of the Tripura Olympic Association, is also accompanying the delegation.

According to the Tripura Olympic Association, the delegation is visiting various competition venues and sports infrastructure facilities associated with the Asian Games in Japan. The visit is aimed at understanding international standards of sports infrastructure, venue management and other arrangements that could be useful in preparations for the forthcoming National Games in the Northeast.

The visit assumes significance as Meghalaya is among the states preparing to host the National Games, while several sporting activities and events are expected to be organised across the northeastern region. Officials are seeking to draw lessons from Japan's experience in hosting major multi-sport competitions.

Meanwhile, the Tripura Olympic Association also organised a virtual interaction from Japan with Tripura's leading judoka Asmita Dey, popularly regarded as one of the state's promising sporting talents.

During the virtual interaction, Tripura Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Tripura Olympic Association President and Padma Shri awardee Dr. Dipa Karmakar, Advisory Board Chairman Ratan Saha, and members of the association's executive committee conveyed their best wishes to Asmita Dey ahead of her scheduled competition on September 30.

The Indian judo team's preparations are currently underway at Tsukuba, located around 400 kilometres from Nagoya, where the Asian Games-related activities are taking place. The team is undergoing intensive training in Japan ahead of its participation in the Games.

The Tripura Olympic Association said the Indian judo contingent will have another major assignment immediately after the Asian Games. Following the conclusion of the Games, the Indian judo team is scheduled to travel from Japan to Azerbaijan to participate in the World Championships.

The participation of Asmita Dey and the presence of Tripura representatives in Japan have added significance for the state's sporting community, particularly at a time when attention is increasingly focused on strengthening sports infrastructure and preparing athletes from the Northeast for national and international competitions.

The Tripura Olympic Association said the Japan visit is expected to provide valuable practical experience regarding the planning and management of major sporting facilities and competitions, which could contribute to preparations for future multi-sport events in the region.
