Power Woes Hit Several Parts of Jogendranagar Amid Low Voltage and Helpline Problems, Restored Around Midnight, Residents Raise Questions Over Recurring Faults

Power-related problems once again caused considerable inconvenience to residents in several parts of Agartala’s Jogendranagar, with complaints of low voltage, technical faults and difficulties in contacting the electricity helpline.

In Jogendranagar, particularly in the Madhyapara and Nishanpara areas, residents reported a sharp drop in voltage at around 11:20 PM, leaving several households struggling to operate electrical appliances normally. The situation continued for a considerable period before power supply was restored around midnight.

According to local residents, repeated attempts were made to contact the electricity consumer helpline 1912. However, consumers faced difficulties in getting through to the helpline. When contact was eventually established, they were reportedly informed that technical personnel were working to rectify the fault and that restoration would take some more time.

The prolonged disruption late at night has once again triggered concerns among residents about the reliability of electricity supply in different parts of the capital city.

Residents said the problem is not limited to a single incident or locality. Low voltage, phase failures, sudden shutdowns, load-related problems and unexpected interruptions have reportedly become recurring issues in several areas.

While occasional technical faults are unavoidable in any electricity distribution system, residents argue that repeated incidents at short intervals require a comprehensive technical assessment of the distribution network. They believe issues relating to transformer capacity, feeders, phase balancing, load management, conductors and other infrastructure need to be examined in order to identify the underlying causes.

The difficulties faced by consumers have also been compounded by problems with the 1912 helpline. According to information cited by residents, technical issues affecting BSNL services have frequently disrupted PRI lines, making it difficult for consumers to contact 1912 and other helpline services when they need assistance.

For consumers facing a power breakdown, particularly during late-night hours, the inability to promptly register a complaint or obtain clear information regarding the fault and expected restoration time can further increase their frustration.

Meanwhile, several areas of Agartala are also experiencing electricity interruptions in connection with pre-Durga Puja maintenance and repair work. Residents acknowledge the importance of preventive maintenance ahead of the festive season, but they have questioned the frequency and duration of such disruptions.

According to residents, maintenance-related power interruptions have occurred at various times throughout the year, often causing inconvenience to consumers. They have called for better planning and scheduling of repair work so that necessary maintenance can be completed while minimising disruption to normal life.

Residents stressed that they are not expecting a power distribution system completely free from technical faults. Their primary demands are stable voltage, reliable electricity supply, prompt restoration of faults and a functioning consumer grievance mechanism.

They have urged the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) and the concerned Power Department authorities to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the electricity distribution system in the affected areas and identify the recurring causes of low voltage, phase failures and supply interruptions.
