UCO bank (Dharma Nagar, Chandrapur) branch manager’s fraud , customer fleeced of more than Rs 10 lakhs

A startling case of fraud committed by the manager of United Commercial Bank (UCB)’s Dharma Nagar Chandrapur branch, Surajit Mullick has come to the fore with a cheated customer now seeking intervention from the assistant zonal manager of the Bank’s zonal office in Guwahati and field inspector. As per details of the case available from sources, Dilip Kumar Das, a resident of Durgapur area of Kailasahar, had applied to the then branch manager of UCO bank (Dharma Nagar-Chandrapur) Surajit Mullick for a housing loan of Rs 10 lakhs in the year 2021. While receiving the application for loan Surajit Mullick got a number of withdrawal slips signed by the applicant Dilip Kumar Das.

But later on , much to his horror, Dilip Kumar Das found that by using his signed withdrawal slip more than Rs 10 lakhs had been withdrawn from his savings account in the UCO bank through forged signatures . One particular signature showed his name as Dilip Kumar Paul in stead of his original and actual name of Dilip Kumar Das. This came to light in a sharp way on January 5 this year when Dilip Kumar Das obtained a bank statement of his account. He said that there had been altogether 25 withdrawals and receipts for seven of them had not been given to him. In a complaint filed with the zonal assistant manager of the UCO bank Dilip Kumar Das has raised the question as to how the branch manger Surajit Mullick passed the withdrawal of Rs 45 thousand from his account depite his name being wrongly written in the signature on the withdrawal receipt. Besides, he has also pointed out that on March 18 2022 a loan of Rs 2.42 lakhs had been sanctioned in his name but withdrawn fraudulently by another person who possibly acted at the behest of corrupt branch manager Surajit Mullick.

Apart from this, in his letter of complaint Dilip Kumar Das said that branch manager Surajit Mullick has amassed huge properties with his ill-earned money through fraud . Surajit is already owner of three big houses and a huge building in Kailasahar as well as t three plots of land in Calcutta. The plots in Calcutta have been bought by Surajit in the name of other persons to evade IT investigation and tax. Dilip Kumar Das has appealed to the zonal office of UCO bank in Guwahati to conduct an inquiry into the matter and ensure refund of his money stolen by Surajit Mullick. He has also stated that unless steps are taken within a reasonable time to fulfill his demands he will file a case in the high court to elicit his rights.
