A serious allegation has surfaced against Amalesh Das, a BJP leader associated with the Bordowali Assembly constituency and reportedly the president of a BJP booth as well as a local club secretary, following an alleged assault in which the family of a deceased police personnel has linked him and several others to the circumstances surrounding the retired police officer’s death.

According to allegations made by the deceased police employee’s son, Amalesh Das was among those responsible for an attack that allegedly took place on August 19, 2023. The complainant has claimed that the incident occurred at his residence and that police personnel were present at the spot when the alleged assault took place. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, the family has raised questions over the reported absence of arrests against the accused persons.

The complainant has specifically named Amalesh Das and alleged that the BJP leader was directly involved in the incident. He has further alleged that the assault had a serious impact on his father, identified in the complaint as Tapan Kumar Debray, a police employee. According to the family's version, his father subsequently became seriously ill following the incident and later died in GB hospital.

The deceased police employee’s son has now publicly attributed responsibility for his father’s death to the alleged assault and has demanded action against those named in the complaint.

The complaint reportedly also refers to an earlier dispute dating back to 2023 involving Amalesh Das and two individuals. According to the complainant, three cases had previously been filed in connection with that episode, and pressure was allegedly exerted repeatedly to withdraw those cases. The complainant has alleged that the subsequent attack took place after those efforts failed.

The family has further alleged that police from the local police station reached the spot following the incident and removed the injured police employee for treatment. The complainant claims that, despite the presence of police during the episode, effective action against the alleged attackers has not followed, raising questions about the handling of the case.

The allegations have assumed additional political significance because of Amalesh Das’s reported position within the BJP organisation in the Bordowali Assembly constituency. The complainant has described him as a close political associate of local BJP leaders.

However, the family has demanded that the police conduct a comprehensive investigation, identify all persons allegedly involved in the assault, examine the circumstances leading to the police employee’s death and take appropriate legal action if the allegations are substantiated.

The matter also raises broader questions about whether political influence can affect the investigation of criminal allegations. Such a question, however, would need to be addressed through documentary evidence, the police investigation, medical records, post-mortem findings and, ultimately, the judicial process.

It is important to note that the details above represent allegations made by the complainant and the deceased police employee’s family.
