Preparations for the forthcoming 2026 General Election to Tripura’s Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) have formally moved forward with the State Election Commission issuing a detailed schedule for the finalisation of polling stations across the state.
According to a notification issued by the State Election Commission, Tripura, Agartala, on September 14, 2026, under Rule 3 of the Tripura Municipalities (Conduct of Election) Rules, 1995, the process of preparing and finalising the polling-station list will begin with the publication of a draft list on September 17.
The Commission has fixed the following schedule:
September 17, 2026: Draft publication of the list of polling stations.
September 21, 2026: Last date for filing claims, objections and suggestions regarding the draft list.
September 23, 2026: Disposal of claims and objections.
September 25, 2026: Final publication of the polling-station list.
The notification has been issued by State Election Commissioner Dr. P.K. Chakravarty.
The Commission has directed that the polling-station lists for the respective municipal wards be published by the District Municipal Election Officers, who are the District Magistrates of the concerned districts. The exercise will be carried out in accordance with Rule 7 of the Tripura Municipalities (Registration of Electors) Rules, 1995.
The publication of the draft list on September 17 will provide an opportunity for voters, political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to examine the proposed polling stations and submit claims, objections or suggestions.
The District Municipal Election Officers will subsequently examine the submissions, with the disposal process scheduled for September 23. Following this exercise, the final list of polling stations will be published on September 25.
Under the applicable municipal election rules, sufficient polling stations are to be provided for municipal constituencies, with the polling-station list indicating the polling areas or groups of voters assigned to each station.
The notification is another indication that the electoral machinery is moving into an important preparatory phase ahead of the 2026 Urban Local Body elections in Tripura.
The State Election Commission has also emphasised in its election-related instructions the need for political parties, candidates, electors and the election machinery to maintain discipline and ensure a free, fair and peaceful electoral process.
