TPS Officer Kishan Kumar’s Wife Refutes Reports Over Agartala Road Accident, Says Minor Daughter Was Not Driving

Ms. Moushomi Khan, wife of Tripura Police Service (TPS) officer Kishan Kumar, has strongly disputed reports circulating on social media and in sections of the media regarding a road accident involving her family’s vehicle near Western Club on AK Road, Agartala, on August 31.

When asked to Ms Moushomi Khan by TripuraInfo.com reporter in her statement concerning the incident, Moushomi Khan said that her minor daughter, a Class X student of Holy Cross School, Agartala, was returning from her English tuition at Mohan Singh Circuit House on the morning of August 31 in the family’s Maruti Ignis Delta, bearing registration number TR01CL0297, which is registered in Moushomi Khan’s name.

According to the statement, Kishan Kumar had been out of station in connection with his official duties and had therefore requested the driver, identified as Sandeep Kumar, to pick up his daughter from tuition.

The statement says that while the vehicle was returning after the tuition, when it reached near Western Club, an e-rickshaw (TomTom), bearing registration number TR01ER-2451, allegedly came from the wrong side and suddenly dashed against the Maruti Ignis. The family has described the incident as having occurred due to rash and negligent driving by the e-rickshaw driver.

Moushomi Khan further stated that her daughter was seated in the back seat of the Maruti Ignis when the accident occurred. She allegedly sustained injuries to her head, nose and legs and was subsequently taken for medical treatment, including CT scan and X-ray examinations at AGMC and GBP Hospital, Agartala.

Two passengers travelling in the e-rickshaw were also injured in the collision, according to the statement. Both the family vehicle and the e-rickshaw reportedly suffered substantial damage.

Ms Moushomi Khan’s statement also alleges that immediately after the accident, a violent mob damaged the family vehicle and blocked the road. She further claims that the driver, Sandeep Kumar, was compelled by the mob to accompany the local police to West Agartala Police Station.

Moushomi Khan said that her daughter, being a minor, remained traumatised after the incident and was unable to concentrate properly on her studies.

A major point raised in the statement concerns reports circulating on social media and other platforms claiming that the minor girl herself was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Moushomi Khan categorically rejected the allegation, describing it as absolutely false and malicious. She also disputed reports suggesting that she and her husband Kishan Kumar were inside the vehicle when the accident took place.

According to her statement, some news reports and social-media posts allegedly claimed that her minor daughter was driving the car and that the family was travelling together in the vehicle. She said such reports were false and that the manner in which the incident was being presented had adversely affected the professional and family image of those concerned.

The statement further says that following the accident, an FIR was lodged at West Agartala Police Station on the basis of a complaint filed by the wife of the e-rickshaw driver and the husband of an injured passenger.

Moushomi Khan stated that all three injured persons, including her daughter, have subsequently been released from hospital and, fortunately, there was no one killed in the accident.

She also emphasised that the matter is currently under investigation and that the facts of the incident will become clear after completion of the police investigation.
