Young man and septuagenarian killed in road rage , grief in Gokulpur and Bagma under Udaipur subdivision

Road rage, by now the worst killer in Tripura after the end of insurgency , has been continuing unabated with the traffic department of the government pretending as if all is well. During the past forty eight hours a young man of only twenty and a man in his mid-seventies died from a motor bike and a truck accident in two different parts of Udaipur subdivision.

Giving details of the two mishaps sources from Udaipur said that around 10-30 in the night on last Monday Saurav Chakraborty (20) of Gokulpur market area under Udaipur police station had left on his motor bike No-03N-9209 for Shalgarah area with his friend Yunus Mia (21) as pillion rider. The motor bike headed for Shalgarah area at exceedingly high speed. As soon as the bike reached the Gokulpur middle market it overturned on the road sending both the riders reeling on the hard road cover. The local people who had rushed to the spot informed the Fire Brigade authority who came immediately and shifted both bleeding Saurav Chakraborty and Yunus Mia to the Gomati district hospital at Tepania. But the doctor on duty there declared Saurav ‘dead on arrival’-that is he had died before being brought to hospital-while Yunus who was in critical condition was immediately referred to GBP hospital , Agartala . The parents and relatives of both Saurav and Yunus broke down in loud wailing , though Saurav was cremated yesterday after post-mortem even though Yunus is battling for life in GBP hospital.

In a separate road mishap yesterday in Bagma market area under Udaipur subdivision, the member of CPI (M)’s Bagma market branch committee Sudhir Dasgupta was hit hard by a speeding truck around 4-30 PM and died on the spot. Veteran Sudhir Dasgupta , a popular leader of CPI (M) in Bagma, was declared ‘brought dead’ after being taken to Bagma primary health centre. He had gone to the CPI (M) local committee office in Bagma to attend a meeting. The twin deaths have cast deep shadows of grief and mourning among people in both Bagma and Gokulpur.
