Organisational issues will be resolved through party mechanism, anti-party activities will not be tolerated: Tripura BJP chief

The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will address organisational differences at the appropriate party forum, but will take disciplinary action against those found engaging in activities against the interests of the organisation, State president Abhishek Debroy said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference at the State BJP headquarters in Agartala, Mr. Debroy sought to play down concerns over discontent following the recent restructuring of organisational committees at the mandal level. He said the reconstitution of committees was part of the BJP’s established organisational process and should not be interpreted as removal of workers from the party.

“The formation of mandal committees is part of the organisational process. If a worker’s name does not figure in a newly constituted committee, it does not mean that the person has been removed from the party,” Mr. Debroy said.

He said the BJP follows a three-year organisational cycle under which committees at different levels are periodically reconstituted. Workers who are not included in a particular committee, he added, could continue to remain associated with the party and contribute in other capacities.

The State BJP chief said the formation of mandal committees was carried out according to organisational procedures and under the supervision of the party leadership, including the central leadership.

His remarks came amid questions over reported differences between some mandal-level leaders and party workers following the organisational changes. Mr. Debroy said genuine grievances would be examined and resolved through the appropriate organisational forum

“Organisational problems, if there are any, will be addressed through the party mechanism,” he said, while drawing a distinction between internal differences and activities that undermine the organisation.

The State president, however, made it clear that the party would not compromise on discipline. “Anti-party activities will not be tolerated,” he said, adding that disciplinary measures would be taken against those found working against the interests of the BJP.

The comments are significant as the State BJP has begun preparations for the 2028 Assembly election while simultaneously undertaking organisational restructuring. The leadership is seeking to strengthen the party’s booth-level network and ensure greater coordination between its various organisational tiers.

At the press conference, Mr. Debroy also announced a month-long programme in Tripura to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The programme will be held from September 17 to October 17 across the State.

The programme will include drawing competitions, ‘Namo Seva’ initiatives, activities at Anganwadi centres, various service-oriented programmes and a ‘Seva Mashaal’ march. According to the BJP State president, the initiatives are aimed at increasing public participation and creating awareness about social service and programmes of the BJP-led government.

Mr. Debroy also referred to Mr. Modi’s political career, including his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister before he became Prime Minister in 2014. He claimed that the country had undergone significant changes during Mr. Modi’s tenure as Prime Minister.

The BJP’s organisational restructuring in Tripura has taken place against the backdrop of preparations for the next Assembly election. While the State leadership has sought to project the changes as part of the party’s routine organisational cycle, questions over the exclusion of some workers from newly formed committees have prompted discussions within the organisation.

Mr. Debroy’s message on Tuesday was therefore two-fold: internal grievances could be raised through the party’s established mechanism, but public or organisational activity against the party would invite disciplinary action. The State leadership appears keen to contain organisational differences while maintaining discipline as it begins its longer-term preparations for the 2028 election.
