A 28-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death during a confrontation involving her live-in partner and his family at the Kamalasagar Bhadra Mela in Tripura’s Sepahijala district, with police arresting the partner’s younger brother in connection with the killing.

The deceased, identified as Sujita Das, had been living with Pritam Nama for around three-and-a-half years, although both were previously married. According to police sources, Nama’s family had opposed the relationship.

The incident occurred on Saturday night when Das and Nama were attending the fair. Pritam’s father, Sanjit Nama, and his younger son Nayan were reportedly running a stall at the venue.

Sources said an argument began after Pritam was questioned about his relationship with Das. The situation allegedly escalated into a physical altercation between Pritam and his father. Nayan intervened and, during the confrontation, allegedly picked up a knife and attacked Das on the neck.

Das was initially taken to Madhupur Primary Health Centre and later referred to GBP Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Police arrested Nayan from Hapania Hospital later that night. A forensic team subsequently accompanied investigators to the scene as part of the probe.

Das’s mother, Gouri Das, later lodged a complaint at Madhupur police station naming Sanjit and Nayan.

Nayan was produced before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court on Sunday, where police sought his remand. The investigation is continuing.
