Tripura Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal Attends 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Cape Town

Tripura Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal is participating in the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) 2026 being held in Cape Town, South Africa, from September 13 to 19.

Pal, in a social media post, said he was extremely proud and delighted to have the opportunity to attend the prestigious international parliamentary conference in Cape Town, a city known for its historical significance and scenic surroundings.

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference brings together parliamentary representatives from different countries to deliberate on a range of issues concerning democracy, good governance, parliamentary values, law-making in the public interest and strengthening democratic institutions.

According to Pal, the conference is not merely an international gathering of parliamentarians but an important platform for sharing democratic experiences, exchanging ideas and promoting greater cooperation among countries.

“Representing India at this international conference is a matter of great honour for me,” Pal said, highlighting the opportunity to interact with elected representatives from different parts of the world and share India's democratic system, parliamentary traditions and experiences of working “for the people, with the people.”

The participation of a senior representative from the Tripura Legislative Assembly assumes significance as the conference provides an opportunity to exchange views on how parliamentary institutions can become more effective, accountable and responsive to citizens. Discussions at such international parliamentary forums also provide legislators with exposure to different approaches to governance, legislative practices and democratic institution-building.

Pal said that participation in the conference would enable him to gain new experiences and knowledge in the international parliamentary arena, which he hopes to apply more effectively in future public welfare initiatives.

He further described the opportunity to present India's long democratic tradition before an international audience as a matter of immense pride.

The 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, scheduled to continue until September 19 in Cape Town, has brought together parliamentarians from across the Commonwealth for discussions on contemporary challenges facing democratic institutions and parliamentary governance.
