Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitendra Choudhury on Sunday described voluntary blood donation as an important social activity that helps strengthen human relations and foster a sense of humanity.

Speaking after attending a blood donation camp organised by the Tripura Government Employees’ Association (TGEA) in Agartala, Choudhury said technological advances, including artificial intelligence, could serve several creative purposes but could not replace human blood.

“I am not trained in the use of computers. In recess, I use artificial intelligence out of curiosity to learn more about it,” he said, referring to the use of AI for creative works such as photographs and music.

“But blood cannot be created artificially. I feel it should not get created in order to ensure that human-to-human relations remain protected,” he said.

Choudhury said blood donation should not be viewed only as an effort to save critically ill patients, but also as an activity contributing to the mental and social well-being of people.

Referring to alleged attacks on blood donation camps, he said such incidents raised questions about the need to preserve humanity in society.

Choudhury also praised TGEA for undertaking activities beyond the interests of its members and contributing to society.

“Only membership numbers don't matter. The greater goals and social contribution should be kept into account to measure the magnitude of its impact on society,” he said.
