Despite the BJP, Tipra Motha Party (TMP) and Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) being partners in the NDA alliance in Tripura, the final candidate figures for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committee elections indicate that the seat-sharing understanding has not completely eliminated contests among the three alliance partners.
According to the final figures available after the withdrawal of nominations, elections are being held for 4,597 Village Committee seats, while 1,630 seats have already gone uncontested. Tipra Motha has the largest electoral presence, with candidates in 4,279 seats, accounting for about 93.1 per cent of the total seats. The BJP has fielded candidates in 1,853 seats, or around 40.3 per cent, while the IPFT has candidates in 356 seats, representing approximately 7.7 per cent of the total.
The combined number of candidate positions held by the three NDA partners stands at 6,488, which is 1,891 more than the total number of seats. In percentage terms, their combined candidate positions are equivalent to 141.1 per cent of the total 4,597 seats. This clearly indicates that the three parties have overlapping candidates in a significant number of constituencies rather than following a completely exclusive seat-sharing formula in which only one NDA partner contests each seat.
