Make blood donation, a movement: CM tells youth

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday urged young people to participate more actively in voluntary blood donation, describing the practice as an expression of humanity and calling for wider public involvement in the movement.

Dr Saha made the remarks after unveiling marble statues of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Swami Vivekananda and inaugurating a blood donation camp at the Netaji Subhas Regional Coaching Centre (NSRCC). The camp was organised by the Tripura Sports Council.

He said voluntary blood donation programmes had become an integral part of social life in Tripura and stressed the need for greater participation.

Dr Saha said Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Swami Vivekananda represented ideals of patriotism and humanity. He said society could move in a positive direction if their ideals were followed in personal and social life.

The chief minister also linked greater youth participation in sports and social welfare activities with efforts to build a drug-free Tripura.

He said sports could provide young people with opportunities beyond academics and contribute to improving their socio-economic prospects. Success in sports, he added, required both physical and mental strength.

Referring to the state's sporting achievements, Dr Saha said Tripura’s athletes had earned recognition at national and international levels through their performances.

Secretary of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department Tapas Roy, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Padma Shri awardee Deepa Karmakar and department director L Darlong were among those present.
