A total of 10,889 nomination papers have been accepted following scrutiny for the 2026 Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), with the final list of candidates expected after the withdrawal deadline on September 11.

According to the State Election Commission, 10,961 nomination papers were submitted by 10,938 candidates for the polls. Scrutiny resulted in the rejection of 72 nomination papers linked to 49 candidates.

The Commission said the difference between the number of nomination papers and candidates was because some candidates submitted more than one paper. Rejection of one paper, therefore, did not necessarily disqualify a candidate if another nomination submitted by the same person was found valid.

Tipra Motha Party recorded the highest number of accepted nominations at 4,361, followed by CPI(M) with 2,456 and BJP with 1,971. The IPFT had 483 accepted nominations, Congress 465 and CPI four. A total of 1,149 nominations were accepted in the Others category.

Among the rejected papers, CPI(M) accounted for 31, followed by Tipra Motha with 30. BJP and IPFT had three each, Congress one and Others four. No CPI nomination was rejected.

Candidates seeking to withdraw from the contest can submit written notices to the concerned Returning Officer by 3 pm on September 11.

The State Election Commission said the final composition of the contest would be known only after the withdrawal process is completed. Candidates whose nominations have been accepted and who do not withdraw within the stipulated period will remain in the electoral fray.

Polling for the Village Committee elections is scheduled for September 28.
