BJP suffers erosion in Dhalai district, 80 tribal voters including party leaders leave party and join CPI (M)

The BJP’s politics of sub-contract reflected in the party’s unequal electoral alliance with the ‘Tipra Motha’ seems to be making the party bleed in terms of desertion of workers and supporters in tribal dominated areas. This trend is most pronounced in the Dhalai district as 80 tribal supporters and voters of the party yesterday did away with their association with the BJP and joined the CPI (M).

Sources from Ambassa said that in Ganganagar area under Ambassa subdivision as many as eighty tribal supporters and voters of the party including one booth president and two members of the ‘Mandal’. A joining meeting had been organized by the CPI (M)’s Ganganagar local committee secretary Len Bahadur Thapa and other members in the Ganganagar market. In that meeting eighty BJP supporters and voters headed by BJP booth president Khaja Mohan Tripura and ‘Mandal’ members Sharmajay Reang, Murbijay Reang and other BJP leaders like Dhirendra Reang, Gobinda Reang and Malabati Reang joined the CPI (M).

The local CPI (M) leaders including Len Bahadur Thapa accepted the new 80 entrants to the party from BJP by handing over to them CPI (M) party flags . The new entrants expressed their frustration with the BJP for the way they had surrendered to the ‘Tipra Motha’ and corruption at the government level . This is considered as a major blow to the BJP in Ambassa subdivision ahead of the Village Committee polls, sources added.
