Salary Crisis Among Scheme Employees in Tripura, Severely Hits SSA Teachers, NHM and Social Welfare Employees and Workers

A serious salary crisis has reportedly affected several categories of scheme-based and contractual employees in Tripura. SSA/Samagra Shiksha teachers, Mid-Day Meal workers, several NHM employees and workers under the Social Welfare Department are allegedly facing delays in receiving salaries and honorariums, with some reportedly waiting for up to three to four months.

The prolonged delay has pushed many employees into financial hardship. Workers dependent on their monthly income are reportedly struggling to meet essential expenses such as food, transportation, house rent, children's education and medical costs.

The situation has become particularly difficult for SSA teachers. In Sepahijala district, one SSA teacher reportedly approached the District Education Officer seeking permission to undertake private work, claiming that the delayed payment had left him unable even to arrange regular transportation expenses to attend school.

Employees have questioned why payments for work already performed are being delayed for such a long period. They are demanding immediate release of all pending salaries and honorariums and a transparent explanation from the concerned departments regarding the reasons for the delay.

The issue has also raised wider concerns over the financial security of contractual workers engaged in education, healthcare, nutrition and social welfare programmes. Employees say timely payment is essential for them to continue their duties without facing severe financial pressure.

The affected workers have urged the Tripura government to intervene immediately, clear all outstanding payments and establish a reliable system to ensure that salaries and honorariums are released regularly every month.
