ECI Defers Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls in Tripura Amid TTAADC Village Committee Polls

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has deferred the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tripura in view of the forthcoming general elections to the Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The Commission has approved a revised timetable for the electoral-roll revision exercise, allowing the ongoing preparations for the Village Committee elections to proceed without overlapping with the intensive voter-verification process.

The revised schedule was communicated to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Tripura, through an official communication issued on September 9, 2026, following a request from the State election machinery seeking postponement of the SIR. The decision is significant as the Village Committee elections are expected to involve extensive administrative and election-related responsibilities, particularly across the TTAADC areas.

According to the revised programme, the preparatory phase of the SIR will begin on October 27, 2026, and continue until November 5, 2026. During this period, election officials will undertake necessary preparations, including the training of personnel and printing-related work required for the revision of the electoral rolls.

The crucial house-to-house verification phase will subsequently be conducted from November 6 to December 5, 2026. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households during this period to verify electoral details at the field level. The exercise is intended to ensure that voter information is properly verified and that discrepancies, errors or other issues in the electoral database can be identified and addressed through the prescribed procedures.

The rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations will also have to be completed by December 5, 2026, as part of the revised electoral-roll exercise.

Following completion of the field verification process, the draft electoral roll will be published on December 12, 2026. The publication of the draft roll will mark the beginning of the claims and objections period, giving electors and other eligible stakeholders an opportunity to examine the entries and seek corrections or raise objections in accordance with the applicable electoral procedures.

The period for filing claims and objections will remain open from December 12, 2026, to January 10, 2027. After the submission period closes, election authorities will undertake scrutiny and disposal of the claims and objections. The notice-related procedures and disposal process are scheduled to continue until February 9, 2027.

The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on February 15, 2027, bringing the revised SIR exercise to its concluding stage. The qualifying date for determining eligibility for enrolment in the revised electoral roll has been fixed as January 1, 2027.
