Tripura’s Golden Girl Asmita Dey Among 503-Member Indian Contingent for Asian Games, CM Manik Saha Felicitates State’s Representatives

Tripura’s sporting fraternity is set to witness another moment of pride as judoka Asmita Dey, popularly regarded as one of the state’s promising sporting talents, prepares to represent India at the upcoming Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.

Alongside Asmita Dey, Maharashtra squash player Suraj Chand and Tripura Olympic Association General Secretary and All India Tennis Association Joint Secretary Sujit Roy will also be associated with India’s Asian Games contingent. In total, 503 athletes and officials are scheduled to represent India at the continental sporting extravaganza.

Ahead of the Games, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha felicitated and extended his best wishes to Asmita Dey, Suraj Chand and Sujit Roy at a special programme held at Tripura Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday evening.

The felicitation programme brought together prominent representatives from India’s sporting administration. Among those present were the Secretary of the Maharashtra Olympic Association, the Working President of the Meghalaya Olympic Association, the General Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Olympic Association and office-bearers of various national sports federations.

All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Chaubey was also among the distinguished guests attending the programme.

Congratulating the three representatives, Chief Minister Manik Saha conveyed his best wishes to the entire Indian contingent and expressed confidence that the Indian athletes would deliver a strong performance at the Asian Games in Japan.

The participation of Asmita Dey is particularly significant for Tripura. Her selection for the Indian contingent has brought renewed attention to the state’s growing contribution to Indian judo and the wider national sporting arena. Her journey to the Asian Games is being viewed as a matter of immense pride for Tripura’s sporting community.

The presence of Sujit Roy in the official contingent is another important development for Tripura. As the General Secretary of the Tripura Olympic Association and Joint Secretary of the All India Tennis Association, his participation reflects the state’s growing role not only in competitive sports but also in sports administration at the national level.
