Man Killed in Alleged Mob Assault in Ghilatali, AIKS Demands Strict Action and Government Support for Victim’s Family

A serious law-and-order controversy has erupted in Tripura following the alleged killing of a man named Jalil Mia at Ghila Tali in the Teliamura area. According to allegations raised by the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), Jalil was brutally assaulted by a group of around ten persons armed with iron rods and sticks, and succumbed to his injuries.

The incident has triggered sharp criticism from the AIKS, which has demanded the immediate identification and arrest of all those allegedly involved in the attack, exemplary punishment for the perpetrators, financial and livelihood support for the bereaved family, and effective measures to restore peace and security in the area.

According to the allegations presented by AIKS leaders, Jalil was attacked without provocation and repeatedly beaten with iron rods and sticks. His wife reportedly rushed to the spot after hearing his cries for help. The attackers allegedly continued the assault in front of his wife. It has further been alleged that Jalil suffered particularly brutal injuries, including blows to his private parts.

The AIKS claimed that Jalil pleaded with the attackers to spare his life, even seeking mercy from them, but the assault allegedly continued until he died.

Jalil reportedly leaves behind a four-year-old daughter, making the incident particularly distressing for his family and raising concerns about the future of the child and other dependants.

The allegations have also raised wider questions about the prevailing law-and-order situation in the state. AIKS leaders expressed concern over what they described as a growing atmosphere of violence and communal hostility, asking how such incidents could take place in Tripura.

AIKS leaders visit victim’s family

Following the incident, a delegation of the All India Kisan Sabha visited Jalil’s residence and met members of the bereaved family. The delegation included AIKS state secretary Ratan Das, state president Aghor Debbarma, MLA Nirmal Biswas, and Teliamura divisional secretary Subhas Nath, among others.

The leaders reportedly spoke to the family about the circumstances surrounding the incident and expressed solidarity with them during the difficult period.
