BJP Intensifies Political Offensive in Tripura, CM Manik Saha Targets CPI(M) as BJP–IPFT–Tipra Motha Alliance Takes Centre Stage

The BJP intensified its political campaign across Tripura on Sunday, with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha launching a sharp attack on the CPI(M)'s past record at a large public meeting organised by the party's Barjala Mandal at Ushabazar in the capital.

The political rhetoric assumes added significance as former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and incumbent Chief Minister Manik Saha have repeatedly maintained that the CPI(M) has lost its political relevance in Tripura. Despite this assertion, the CPI(M)'s legacy and its 25-year rule continue to figure prominently in BJP's political messaging, particularly as the party prepares for upcoming local-level elections.

The Barjala Mandal BJP meeting at Ushabazar witnessed significant participation by party workers and supporters. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, BJP state president Abhishek Debroy and Barjala Mandal president Rajib Ghosh were among those present.

Addressing the gathering, Saha and other BJP leaders highlighted the political situation in the state while strongly criticising the previous CPI(M)-led government. The speakers alleged that despite ruling Tripura for decades, the earlier government failed to meet the aspirations of ordinary people and did not deliver adequate development and welfare.

The BJP leaders contrasted the record of the previous government with what they described as the development and welfare initiatives undertaken by the present administration.

A major highlight of the programme was the joining ceremony. According to BJP sources, 325 voters belonging to 87 families from different political parties joined the BJP. Party leaders welcomed the new entrants by handing them BJP flags.

The BJP leadership said that retaining public confidence and accelerating Tripura's development would remain among its principal objectives. The large turnout at Ushabazar created a festive atmosphere in the area and provided the ruling party with an opportunity to demonstrate its organisational strength in the capital.

Meanwhile, political activity has intensified in tribal-dominated areas with the upcoming Village Committee elections approaching.

At a meeting of tribal representatives held at the BJP's 29 Krishnapur Mandal office on Sunday, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma launched a strong attack on both the CPI(M) and Congress.

Debbarma alleged that despite the two parties collectively having enjoyed decades of political influence and rule, they failed to bring about meaningful socio-economic transformation in tribal communities. According to him, tribal issues were frequently used for electoral politics rather than being addressed through sustained development initiatives.

The minister argued that ensuring genuine socio-economic advancement of tribal communities is one of the present government's priorities. He urged voters not to return political parties that, in his assessment, had failed to adequately address tribal development.

A significant political statement from Sunday's meeting was Debbarma's assertion that the BJP, IPFT and Tipra Motha would fight together in the forthcoming Village Committee elections.

According to the minister, the proposed cooperation is centred on tribal development and is intended to prevent the CPI(M) and Congress from regaining political influence by using tribal issues as an electoral tool.

“The alliance is focused on the development of the tribal people. The three parties will work together so that the CPI(M) and Congress cannot once again derive political advantage by using tribal issues,” Debbarma said.
