Teachers day programme observed centrally in Rabindra Shata Varshiki Bhawan

The 65th teachers day , celebrated on the occasion of the birth anniversary of India’s second president Dr Sarvepally Radhakrishnan , was observed today centrally in the Rabindra Shata Varshiki Bhawan. A large number of teachers including headmasters and head mistresses from across the state had been invited to attend the programme and all of them turned up in time. The programme began with a brief cultural function and then speeches by the VVIPs commenced.

It was presided over by the minister for higher education Kishore Barman, director of higher education Animesh Debbarma, minority language director Ananda Hari Jamatya, Sumit Roychowdhury (IAS) and director in charge of training Lalnunneming Darlong and others. The programme had commenced with the lighting of the holy lamp and then speeches followed.

The minister for higher education in his keynote address spoke of the crucial role played by teachers in nation building and paid his tributes to them with an appeal to all teachers to give off their best in their job educating young and impressionable minds. “From our study of history we know how since the very ancient time our saints and sages had played key role in educating their disciples and how the ancient ‘Gurukul’ system of education kept alive the tradition of education in Indian society ; it is our misfortune that the great ‘Gurukul’ system of our education and our educational and cultural heritage were lost because of foreign invasions and long foreign rule” said Kishore Barman .

He stressed the need for utmost dedication on the part of teachers to contribute to the task of making India a ‘Vikshit Bharat’ by the year 2047 when the nation will celebrate the centenary of independence from British rule. “I know you are doing your best but still I appeal to all of you to work in a dedicated manner to educate our students in the best possible manner so that we can reclaim our position as the greatest and most prosperous nation on earth” said Kishore Barman.
