No Action in Agartala Accident Involving IPS Officer’s Minor Daughter, Yet Rs.25,000 Fine on Udaipur Minor Rider’s Father: Questions Over Equal Enforcement of Law

A sharp controversy has erupted in Tripura over what many are alleging to be a glaring disparity in the enforcement of traffic laws. While Traffic Police in Udaipur have reportedly imposed a Rs.25,000 fine on the father of a minor scooter rider, questions are being raised over the police response to an accident in Agartala allegedly involving the minor daughter of an IPS officer, who reportedly did not possess a driving licence.

The issue has sparked widespread questions about whether traffic laws are being applied equally to ordinary citizens and those belonging to influential or police families.

According to reports, the Udaipur Traffic Police recently took strict action against the parent of a minor who was allegedly found riding a scooter. The police reportedly imposed a Rs.25,000 penalty on the child's father, citing the legal responsibility of parents or guardians who allow minors to operate motor vehicles. The enforcement action has been presented as part of the Traffic Police's campaign against underage driving and other road-safety violations.

However, the situation in Agartala has raised a very different set of questions. A serious road accident reportedly occurred when a vehicle allegedly being driven by a minor girl, said to be the daughter of a senior IPS officer Kishan Kumar, was involved in an accident in which three people were reportedly injured. Questions have also been raised over the fact that the minor allegedly did not have a driving licence and was reportedly learning to drive.

The incident has now become a matter of public debate because, despite the seriousness of the allegations, questions are being raised over the apparent lack of visible police action against those responsible.
