Tripura is set to achieve a significant milestone in the marketing and promotion of its tea industry, with the Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC) preparing to dispatch 15,310 kilograms (15.31 metric tonnes) of tea outside the state,
the largest single consignment of tea ever sent out by the corporation.
According to information shared in connection with the upcoming dispatch, the tea consignment has already been readied by TTDC and is expected to be formally dispatched during the first half of September. The dispatch programme has now been scheduled for September 11 at 11:00 AM at the Brahmakunda Tea Factory, under the aegis of the Tripura Tea Development Corporation.
The programme is expected to mark an important step in strengthening the commercial reach and market presence of Tripura tea beyond the state. TTDC Chairman Samir Ranjan Ghosh and Managing Director Rajesh Das, IAS, are scheduled to remain present at the programme.
The scale of the consignment is particularly significant when compared with TTDC’s previous largest outbound shipment. Earlier this year, the corporation had sent 8,200 kilograms of tea to the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre, which until now was the largest consignment exported outside Tripura by TTDC.
The new consignment of 15,310 kilograms therefore represents a substantial increase and highlights the corporation’s efforts to expand the market for Tripura-grown tea and establish a stronger presence outside the state.
The September 11 programme is also expected to bring together stakeholders involved in promoting and marketing Tripura’s tea. Joydeep Bhattacharya, Advisor to Dr. Purnendu Chatterjee, Chairman of The Chatterjee Group, is scheduled to travel to Agartala along with other representatives in connection with the programme. Sovan Sircar, who has been assisting with the marketing of Tripura’s tea, will also be present.
The initiative comes at a time when greater emphasis is being placed on improving the branding, marketing and commercial distribution of Tripura tea. With the latest consignment more than 15 tonnes in volume, the development could provide further momentum to efforts to take the state’s tea beyond traditional markets and create wider commercial opportunities for its tea producers.
