Sources from Khowai said that Anup Saha had socially married Jaya Das of Lankamura area of Agartala in the year 2022 and , even though sufficient dowry had been given at the time of the arranged marriage, Anup Saha started pressing his wife for money. Jaya’s father Nirulal Das (63) had paid more money to Anup by several installments for the sake of happiness of his married daughter. He had also gifted two ‘Gandas’ of land in the name of his miscreant son in law but nothing changed the criminal mindset of Anup Saha who kept on physically abusing his wife Jaya.

It was on May 13 2024 that a social mediation to end the dispute had been arranged in Durga Nagar in presence of elders and leading figures of the area. In the meeting Jaya told all that she was not willing to cohabit with her husband Anup Saha. At this miscreant Anup Saha took a hatchet and struck Jaya on the head and she fell down bleeding . Her father Nirulal Das who had come to attend the mediation meeting also fell unconscious. The local people took a bleeding Jaya to Khowai hospital where she recovered but her old father who had also been admitted to the hospital died there.

After all this Jaya’s maternal uncle Shyamal Das filed a case against the miscreant Anup Saha with the Khowai women police station . The inquiry into the case was started by the sub-inspector Sampa Das of the women police station and charge-sheet in the case was filed on May 31 2024. This was followed by a long trial and many people gave testimonies in the case . Finally yesterday the district and session judge of Khowai Manabendra Debbarma found accused Anup Saha guilty and announced the sentences for Anup Saha yesterday. The local people in Durga Nagar area of Khowai as well as the complainant Jaya Das and her maternal uncle Shyamal Das expressed satisfaction over the order passed by district and session judge Manabendra Debbarma.
