Abhijit Bhattacharjee to Receive Banga-Tripura Shiksha Gourav Samman 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award in Kolkata

It is a matter of pride for Tripura’s education sector as noted educationist and academician Abhijit Bhattacharjee, Principal of School of Science, is set to receive the prestigious “Banga-Tripura Shiksha Gourav Samman 2026, Lifetime Achievement Award” at a special felicitation programme in Kolkata on September 4, 2026.

The award programme is being organised by Banga-Tripura Maitri Mancha, Desh Bhabna and Vision of Bengal, in collaboration with Swami Vivekananda Vidyamandir, as part of celebrations marking Teachers’ Day and the 138th birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the former President of India and one of the country’s most celebrated philosophers, scholars and educationists.

The felicitation ceremony is scheduled to be held at Nalini Guha Sabhaghar, 5/2 B.B. Ganguly Street, Kolkata, near Central Metro Station, and will bring together distinguished personalities from the fields of education, medicine, social awareness, literature and public life.

Among the prominent guests expected at the programme are Dr. Kunal Sarkar, eminent cardiologist and widely respected medical personality, and Professor Biswanath Chakraborty, noted educationist and political analyst. Several other distinguished personalities are also scheduled to attend the event.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises Bhattacharjee’s longstanding contribution to education and academic development. As Principal of the School of Science, he has been associated with the promotion of science education and academic excellence in Tripura over the years.

His career has also brought him several other recognitions. According to the award profile issued for the programme, Bhattacharjee received the Best Academician Award, 2022, from the Government of Tripura. The award was presented on January 21, 2022, by then Chief Secretary Kumar Alok during the celebration of 50 years of Tripura’s statehood.

He was also honoured with the Man of the Year Award, 2007, by The Telegraph, followed by the Sweta Bhattacharjee Memorial Award, 2009, presented by former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar. His other recognitions include the Man of the Year Award, 2009, by Tripura Times, the Teacher of the Year Award, 2009, by Eastern Panorama, and the Amrakunja Samman 2016 from a non-political voluntary social organisation.

Bhattacharjee was additionally selected as a Distinguished Member of the Pan-India Panel of Judges by AIR India for the selection of the National Rank and Bolt Award for 2007-08, according to the profile circulated for the event.

The forthcoming Kolkata ceremony is therefore being viewed as another significant recognition of his contribution to the field of education.
