40 Days After Former DGP Anurag Dhankar’s Mysterious Death, Suicide Note Surfaces Indicating Possible Frustration, Police Keep Contents Secret

The investigation into the mysterious death of former Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar has taken a significant turn with investigators reportedly recovering an alleged suicide note nearly 40 days after his death. The document, which is being treated as an important piece of evidence in the case, was reportedly recovered on Monday, August 31.

Police have so far maintained complete secrecy regarding the contents of the alleged suicide note. According to a source familiar with the investigation, the document has been handed over to the State Forensic Science Laboratory for examination and verification. Investigators are expected to determine whether the note is genuine and whether the handwriting and other relevant aspects are consistent with Dhankar’s identity.

At present, it is not known whether the alleged suicide note directly names or holds any particular individual responsible for Dhankar’s death or his decision to end his life. Police officials have also refrained from making any definitive statement about what may have prompted the former DGP to take such an extreme step.

However, according to information emerging from sources familiar with the matter, the overall contents and tenor of the alleged note, when considered together, reportedly suggest that Dhankar may have been facing dissatisfaction or difficulties in both his professional and family life. Sources have also indicated that the note may contain expressions suggesting a sense of disillusionment or loss of interest in life.

These interpretations, however, have not been officially confirmed by the police.

The development assumes particular importance because, on the night of August 31, investigators reportedly recovered the much-discussed handwritten copy of the alleged suicide note. At the same time, police also obtained access to a digital copy of the document reportedly available on Dhankar’s wife’s mobile phone through WhatsApp.

The recovery of both the handwritten and same digital versions could provide investigators with two separate lines of evidence. The handwritten document can be subjected to forensic and handwriting analysis, while the WhatsApp copy may help investigators establish the circumstances in which the document was allegedly prepared, transmitted and received.

Police are also continuing their inquiry into Dhankar’s personal and professional circumstances in the period preceding his death. Investigators are reportedly questioning members of his family and other people who were close to him in an effort to understand his state of mind and the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Sources said that investigators have not yet been able to comprehensively question all members of the former DGP’s family. His wife, son and several close relatives are currently in Agartala, and police are reportedly questioning them carefully and in stages.

The investigation is being conducted cautiously, with officials apparently seeking to verify every available piece of evidence before arriving at a conclusion. The alleged suicide note is expected to be one of the key elements of the investigation, particularly if forensic examination establishes its authenticity.

The police are reportedly working to complete the investigation as quickly as possible and reach a final conclusion regarding the circumstances and possible reasons behind Dhankar’s death. Until the forensic examination and other aspects of the investigation are completed, however, the contents and implications of the alleged note remain unverified.

The latest development has therefore added a new and potentially crucial dimension to the investigation into the former DGP’s mysterious death. Authorities are expected to rely on forensic findings, digital evidence, statements from family members and other witnesses, and the circumstances surrounding the recovery of the document before making any final determination.
