Tripura Village Committee Polls: CM Signals Seat-Sharing Pact With Tipra Motha, BL Santosh’s Visit May Bring Formal Announcement

A possible political understanding between the ruling BJP and the Tipra Motha Party over the upcoming ADC Village Committee elections has emerged as a major talking point in Tripura’s political circles. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has today reportedly indicated that a seat-sharing arrangement between the two parties is almost finalised, with a formal announcement expected on Tuesday.

BJP national general secretary BL Santosh is scheduled to arrive in Tripura tomorrow, adding further significance to the developments. His visit is being viewed against the backdrop of ongoing discussions over the electoral strategy for the upcoming village-level polls under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

According to the Chief Minister’s remarks, negotiations with the Tipra Motha leadership regarding the distribution of seats have progressed substantially and the broad contours of an understanding are believed to have been worked out. If formally announced, the arrangement would mark another significant phase in the evolving relationship between the BJP and Tipra Motha.

The prospect of an electoral understanding has already triggered sharp reactions from political opponents and sections of the public. Critics have questioned the political narrative surrounding democracy, particularly pointing to the long gap since the previous Village Committee elections and asking why elections were not conducted for years.
