Former Tripura Police IG Dilipjit Debbarma Passes Away at 85, Mourned by Police Fraternity and Civil Society

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Tripura, Dilipjit Debbarma, passed away at his residence on Monday. He was over 85 years old. His death has cast a pall of grief across the police fraternity, former colleagues, social organisations and people who had known him during his long and distinguished career.
Debbarma is survived by his wife and two sons, along with other relatives and well-wishers. His elder son, Anshuman Debbarma, is the Registrar General of the Tripura High Court.
During his service career, Dilipjit Debbarma served in several important assignments in different branches of the Tripura Police and earned a reputation as a disciplined, efficient and humane police officer. He also served as the Commandant of the 1st Battalion of Tripura Police and held responsibilities in the Special Branch (SB) organisation.
Remembered as an Officer with Compassion
Tributes pouring in after his death have highlighted not only his professional abilities but also his personal kindness and understanding towards colleagues.
Many former police colleagues recalled how Debbarma had helped state during an extremely difficult period during militancy period.
The officer said that the decision allowed him to spend valuable time with his family during their most difficult days.

Dilipjit Debbarma was widely remembered as a senior police officer who served in various departments of Tripura Police with distinction. His tenure included important responsibilities at the TSR battalions and Special Branch levels.
