Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar Honoured with ‘Sezhiyan Award’, to Donate Prize Money to CPI(M) State Fund

Former Tripura Chief Minister and senior CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Sezhiyan Award’ in recognition of his long-standing contribution to public life and society. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, which Sarkar has decided to donate in full to the CPI(M) Tripura State Committee fund.

Sarkar disclosed his decision to reporters after returning to Agartala on Sunday from Chennai, where he was felicitated at a special programme held on Saturday evening at the Netaji Auditorium. The event was organised jointly by the Navalar Sezhiyan Foundation and VIT Chennai.

Along with the cash award of Rs. 1 lakh, Sarkar was presented with a citation recognising his contribution. Speaking about the honour, the former Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the organisers for selecting him for the Sezhiyan Award.

Sarkar said he felt privileged to have been part of a gathering that brought together distinguished personalities from different walks of public life. He also expressed his appreciation for the initiative behind the award and the work being undertaken by the organisation for disadvantaged sections of society.

The Navalar-Sezhiyan Trust, established in 2017, was founded with the objective of supporting promising young men and women from marginalised communities, irrespective of caste, religion or social background. The organisation seeks to help such young people develop their potential and create greater opportunities for their advancement.

The trust functions primarily as a charitable organisation and has been involved in initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of disadvantaged communities. It also conducts seminars and workshops to create awareness among people about their rights, opportunities and access to various facilities.
