BJP Government Accused of Recreating Same Vacant Posts Repeatedly, Says Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman

The BJP-led Tripura government has come under sharp criticism from Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, who alleged that the state Cabinet has been repeatedly recreating and reapproving the same vacant government posts without completing the recruitment process.

Roy Barman alleged that the government first places vacant posts before the Cabinet and obtains approval for recruitment. However, instead of completing the recruitment within the validity period of the sanctioned vacancies, the posts remain unfilled.

According to the Congress MLA, once the validity of the vacancies lapses without recruitment, the government again takes up the same vacancies before the State Cabinet and obtains fresh approval, often after going through the required financial approval process.

He alleged that this process is repeated one after another, with the same posts being recreated and reapproved while the actual recruitment remains pending.

Roy Barman argued that merely creating or reapproving posts cannot solve the shortage of employees and teachers in government institutions. He questioned why the government repeatedly seeks Cabinet approval for vacancies if it does not complete the recruitment process within the stipulated period.

The allegation came during the ongoing Tripura Assembly session amid a discussion on vacancies in government colleges. The government informed the Assembly that 200 new Assistant Professor posts have been approved and that steps are also underway to fill existing vacant posts through the Tripura Public Service Commission.

The Congress MLA, however, used the government’s record of pending vacancies to question its commitment to actual recruitment.

According to Roy Barman, the repeated recreation of vacancies creates an impression that the government is taking administrative steps to show that posts are being addressed, while the posts continue to remain vacant on the ground.

He alleged that if the government were genuinely committed to filling vacant posts, recruitment should be completed within the approved period rather than allowing vacancies to lapse and subsequently seeking Cabinet approval for the same posts once again.

The issue has raised a broader question over the gap between Cabinet approval, creation of posts and actual recruitment in Tripura. While the government has announced fresh posts and recruitment initiatives, the Opposition is demanding that sanctioned vacancies be filled within a definite timeframe instead of being repeatedly recreated after their validity expires.

Roy Barman alleged that the pattern reflects a lack of political will on the part of the BJP-led government to complete recruitment against all existing vacancies.

The controversy is likely to remain a significant issue during the Assembly session, particularly as the government faces questions over vacancies in education and other departments and the Opposition continues to demand time-bound recruitment.
