Tripura’s Journey from Insurgency to Peace Documented in New Book

Agartala, August 28: A new book, Insurgency and Peacebuilding in Tripura, written by Dr. Vanlalmuana Darlong and Soubik Majumder, has made an important addition to the growing literature on Tripura’s history of insurgency, conflict and the journey towards peace. The book is about one of the challenging and significant history of Tripura in the recent times and attempts at interpreting it in a broad and simple way.

The book throws light upon the emergence of insurgency in Tripura, historical factors underlying the conflict, political and social consequences of insurgency over the state of Tripura. It also examines the rise of insurgencies, the role of various political and social dynamics, the government's reaction and the initiatives implemented to manage conflict and work towards peace.

Rather than considering insurgency simply as a security or law and order problem, the authors have sought to understand the problem by bringing it in touch with the history, society, politics and metamorphosis of Tripura. The book, therefore, introduces its readers to a wider understanding of the reasons that led to the onset of conflict, its enhancement and how the state slowly proceeded towards peace and stability.

The book represents the hard work and thorough research of both authors. Dr. Vanlalmuana Darlong, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Tripura University and Soubik Majumder, Post graduate student of political science, Tripura University have co-authored the volume. Their work is also an example of the importance of giving academic guidance and mentorship and of involving young scholars in academic writing.

Dr. Vanlalmuana Darlong and Soubik Majumder today presented a book to Prof. Samir Kumar Sil, Registrar (In-charge) of Tripura University during an initiative to outreach the book to the university members. The copy was gifted to be handed over to Central Library of Tripura University.

With its inclusion in the Central Library, the book will be available to students, teachers, researchers and other readers interested in Tripura’s history and politics. It can also be used as an excellent resource for individuals researching insurgency, conflict and peacebuilding in the Northeast.

The presentation of the book in the university library is a significant event for the authors of the book and also for the preservation of knowledge of a significant era in Tripura's history. The work can inspire discussion and further research into the conflict and the slow process of a State towards peace.
